Importing Contacts Using CSV in LinkedClient

Importing contacts using a CSV file is a convenient way to bring leads from other tools, CRMs, or spreadsheets into LinkedClient. This method works well for manual contact management, custom campaigns, or bulk outreach setups where you already have the lead data available.

Preparing Your CSV File

You can create your CSV using Google Sheets, Excel, Numbers, or any spreadsheet editor. The headers in your file can vary, but we recommend using the following structure:

  • First Name and Last Name or a combined Full Name
  • Email, Phone Number, or LinkedIn Profile URL (at least one communication channel is required)

We’ve included a downloadable template in this article to help you get started. If you're exporting from a CRM, the format may differ slightly, but as long as the required fields are present, the system will recognize them.

Uploading Your CSV

  1. Export your spreadsheet as a .csv file
  2. Go to the Contacts or Pipeline section in LinkedClient
  3. Click “Import Contacts”
  4. Select the “CSV Import” option
  5. Upload your CSV file from your device

Setting the Objective

Just like any other import, you’ll need to define the objective for this group of contacts. This helps Elsie understand what type of outreach you want to perform. Keep it brief and clear or detailed if this group is diffenet from your standard group of potential leads. Example: “Start outreach about the LinkedClient product”.

Reviewing and Confirming Imported Contacts

Once the import is complete, the task will appear in your task list. You’ll then be able to review all the data before confirming the final import. For each contact, you’ll see:

  • Name, company, and contact details as pulled from the file
  • Which contacts are already in your network (these are deselected by default)
  • New contacts ready to be added

Tagging Imported Contacts

You can assign tags to your newly imported contacts. This helps you organize them for future campaigns. Tags can be:

  • Custom: Create a new tag for this group (e.g. “Q4 CSV Leads”)
  • Existing: Add them to a previously created tag group

Starting Sales Cycles (Optional)

You’ll have the option to start sales cycles immediately after the import. If you prefer to review or edit the contacts first, you can skip this step and start cycles later from the Contacts panel.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • CSV headers do not have to match LinkedClient’s exactly, but make sure your key fields are clear
  • Only contacts with valid email, phone, or LinkedIn profiles will be eligible for outreach
  • Already existing contacts will not be re-imported; they’ll be automatically deselected during review
