How to Create an Effective Objective in LinkedClient

Przemysław Przemysław

The Objective is a critical part of how your AI assistant, Elsie, understands and handles outreach for each individual contact or group. While survey responses shape Elsie's overall voice and behaviour, the objective fine-tunes the messaging strategy for specific outreach goals.

Below you'll find guidance on how to craft a clear and effective objective that Elsie can follow confidently.

What Is the Objective Used For?

The objective serves as a focused instruction set tied to a particular contact or group of contacts. It tells Elsie what you want to achieve, how to approach the outreach, and any special rules that should apply to this group. While survey settings provide global AI behaviour, the objective is situational and specific.

It can be applied during:

  • Manual contact imports
  • Bulk imports via LinkedIn or Sales Navigator
  • Single contact edits after import

Length and Style

You have a limit of 1,000 characters per objective. The best objectives are:

  • Clear and concise
  • Directly tied to the sales goal
  • Context-rich to inform Elsie’s tone and intent

Example:

Based on my survey, I want to sell this client (or group) my product, LinkedClient. For this group, use a more casual tone. Offer a 20% signup discount code: DISCOUNT2025 if they show interest. If they’re open to a call, use this link to book: [Insert booking link].

How to Use the Objective (and What to Avoid)

Use this field to define your desired outcome for this contact. The Objective field is contact-specific by design. Remember: the Objective is your end-goal, not a prompt. Keep it simple, conversational, and outcome-focused.

Please avoid the following:

  • Requesting that AI send a specific message to the contact.
  • Providing explicit AI-style instructions or commands.
  • Instructing the AI agent to identify itself as "Elsie" — the agent is already configured with this identity.
  • Entering unusual, conflicting, or overly complex instructions that may disrupt the AI agent's behaviour and lead to unexpected results.

Including Relevant Context

Elsie can only personalise messaging when she understands the background of the outreach. Use the objective to share key information, such as:

  • Why this group was selected
  • Whether you’ve interacted before (e.g., met at an event, are part of your LinkedIn network)
  • If they are from a specific region or industry that you’re targeting
  • If this is a cold outreach or a continuation of a prior conversation

The more context you provide, the more human and relevant Elsie’s responses will feel.

Adjusting Tone or Language per Group

While your AI settings and survey define your general communication style, the objective allows you to make group-specific adjustments. For example:

  • For formal outreach: “Use a more professional tone, starting messages with ‘Dear [Name]’”
  • For casual outreach: “Start with ‘Hi [Name]’ and keep the tone friendly and conversational”
  • Language-specific instructions: “Use French if the contact’s location is France”

Using Message Examples

You can include example messages within the objective to set the desired tone or structure. However, Elsie won’t copy them directly; she will draw inspiration from the tone, language, and framing. (Remember not to demand she sends the exact message.)

Simple Objectives Are Also Effective

Not every case requires detailed instructions. For broader, less targeted lists, a simple statement may be enough:

I want to book meetings with this group. Follow the general guidelines in my survey.

This keeps the communication flexible but still guided.

Best Practices Summary

  • Be clear about your goal (e.g., book a meeting, present an offer, share content)
  • Add context about the contact group if relevant
  • Focus on the end-goal, not on explicit AI commands
  • Use your 1,000-character limit effectively
